Three Water Sports To Try:

For a calorie torching sweat session that feels like play, not exercise, take your workout to the water.  Whether you jump in the pool or paddle across a lake, you'll score a cardio workout that doubles as a toning routine.  "Water is denser than air and provides natural resistance - up to 12 times what you'd get on land," says Karl G. Knopf EdD' director of the adaptive fitness therapy program at Foothill College and author of Make The Pool Your Gym.  The best part: you'll work up a sweat without even realizing it!  Add these fun activities to your summer or tropical vacation to-do list. 

1. Stand-Up Paddle boarding (SUP) 
Each stroke tones your back and arms, and you'll sneak in a core workout too.  As you coast across the water, you'll be using your abs to balance on the oversize surfboard. (And trust us: it's easier than you you may think!)

2. Aqua Zumba - Average calorie burn: 500 per hour*

Zumba fused its high energy Latin moves with aqua aerobics to create a seriously fun pool party workout. "The harder you push against the water, the more effective the workout," says co-creator, Maria Browning. Find a class at zumba.com

3. Deep Water Running - Average calorie burn: 575 per hour*

Running while wearing a flotations vest or belt (feet shouldn't tough the pool floor) targets the same muscles you use on dry land but is extra gently on joints.  Plus, the water's resistance provides an added toner for your arms.
